The worst paper EVER!!

FINALLY!! I'm done with all my exams for the semester and therefore have the time to blog about the awful AFW1000 - Principles of Accounting & Finance paper that almost everybody is complaining about.

Before I go on, I feel the need to declare that my accounting and finance skills are not great and that I have not put in 100% effort into this course, BUT I did study for the exam.

On the day of the exam, I was feeling rather anxious. It was the only paper that I had hardly any confidence, and as I started doing the exam, my confidence fell to rock bottom...........

When the invigilator announced the commencement of the exam, I tried my best to answer each of the questions. The first section being multiple-choice was doable, I felt that I could at least score 7 or 8 out of the 10 marks, and it boosted my confidence slightly.

I moved on to the second question and *oh-oh* it was the dreaded income statement and balance sheet. Needless to say, my balance sheet didn't balance and I think I messed up the income statement as well, so there goes my marks. To keep my confidence from dropping any lower, I told myself that it was ok because there are still 7 more questions to go and I'm bound to get the marks back!

After going through a few questions which I can't remember, journalizing some transactions into the wrong account, and bullshitting my way through more questions, I arrived at the future/present value and interest calculation questions. YAY! I can do these......no...wait a minute...what are these questions asking for? O_o

I read, reread, read and reread the questions again and again. I could not understand what the questions wanted. WHY IS THIS?!?! I was depending on these questions to pull me through, but it looks as though the chief examiner was out to get me!! I ended up doing the calculations hastily, half guessing what the questions wanted and went on to finish up the rest of the paper.

By the end of the exam, I did not feel good at all. The girl who sat behind me told her friend that the paper was harder than last semester. The guys sitting in front of me and beside me were discussing how some of the questions seem ambiguous and impossible. Two friends from the adjacent row shook their heads. It's over. It can't get any worst.

Initially, I thought I was the only one getting screwed over by this paper due to my lack of effort. However, as more and more friends voiced out their concern of failing, I started to wonder whether it was me or the paper (one must be aware of the fundamental attribution error =P).

After checking the course's online discussion board, I realized that students from other campuses and out-of-campus students who studied diligently for the exam found the paper frustrating as well. Their main complaint was the wording of the question; they were deemed as ambiguous and contained unfamiliar terms. The practice paper was also found to be "useless" with faulty solutions corrected at the last minute and was presented in a slightly different format from the actual exam.

In hope of catching a response from a teaching staff on the matter, I check the discussion board frequently. No explanations were given until today. Two students from the Gippsland campus went to see their head of school and will be passing on the students' comments. I really hope that the chief examiner will take into consideration all the comments and moderate the exam accordingly.

While waiting for a response from the university, I can only wait patiently for the results and hope for the best. I really don't want to retake this course T_T

UPDATES:
I passed the awful course!!!! ^_^ I even got a distinction for it!! *hahahaha* I cannot believe it. Miracles do happen after all, or maybe it's just the works of the nice bell curve *hehe* Anyhow, I'm very grateful =D
