The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Love has no limits. It has no boundaries. It is unconditional.

Great movie. Loved it.
But it would have been better if I didn't watch it alone =3

Bag to School

The back to school sale has started with slightly more than a month left of holidays for those in the public school system. I on the other hand still have more than 3 months worth of freedom; one of the great benefits of being a university student *hehehe* I wonder if I'll find a part-time job anytime soon *haihz* it's already been 3 weeks since my holidays started and I still haven't found a job =( I really want to get a job so I could GET A NEW LAPTOP!!! Maybe I should really ask the Smart Reader Kids' center near my area if they are willing to hire an inexperience part-timer =3

Anyway, today's post's purpose is not about all that.
It's to show off the new bag I got at the JUSCO member's sale the other day at 1 Utama.

This is going to be my new school bag for next year ^_^
Don't you just ♥LOVE♥ the colors??
It cost less than RM20!!! ^o^

幸福万岁 (Love Matters)

When the trailer came out on TV, it was hilarious and I've wanted to watch it ever since. I like the general concept of the movie, but I find that Jack Neo didn't manage to incorporate the main point and the comedic aspect into the movie that well. While watching the movie, it was like watching a great comedy one second and then it became boring the next second when he tried to be 'serious', and later on it was really funny again and then kind of boring, and the cycle repeats itself throughout the whole movie.

For me, certain scenes looks as though it was forced into the movie just for comedic purpose, and the ending was rather poor. It is a good movie if you are looking for a laugh. But Jack Neo should perhaps try a little harder if he wants to get his main idea about love across.

2012

The Friday after 2012 premiered, I tried to make tickets reservation for it but the phone reservation service was down, even GSC's website was down due to the heavy traffic. Since we (Amy, my brother and I) planned to watch it at Summit where people hardly go, I figured there would still be tickets available on that day.

How wrong was I; after queuing for around 30 minutes or so the tickets were all sold out for the 2.30pm and 2.45pm show except for a few shitty seats which are separated. Seeing that there were no other movies worth watching, we went to buy DVDs instead. I got Orphan, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, UP and G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

This morning, afraid that the tickets were going to be sold out again, I made reservation for the 2.30pm show. Despite it being a weekday and has been more than a week after the premier, there were many office workers who probably took half-day leave just to watch the movie, there were even old grandpa's there *hehe* With so many people still wanting to watch 2012, we (Fabian, Amy and I*) got seats at the side instead of the middle like we usually get =(

*Stupid brother went to watch on Saturday with his friends >_< but Fabian could finally joined us after his exams =)

Overall the movie was good, I liked it. But I find the special effects a bit 'fake' in certain scenes. Fabian however thought it was not rational/logical enough because certain parts did not make scientific sense -_-''

Even though this movie is not about the effect of pollution and global warming, I highly recommend this movie to those who are still not aware of how bad the Earth is affected by our selfish actions. I believe that sooner or later, the end of the world will come if we continue with the way things are going now. Hopefully it won't happen in the year 2012 or anytime in our lifetime XD

The Konami Code

The Konami code is actually a cheat code that can be used in many Konami games. Those of you familiar with Nintendo games should know about this. I've recently discovered that it works on Facebook as well!!

Follow these steps to check out the special effect for yourself =)
  1. Go to any Facebook page.
  2. Enter the Konami code using your keyboard.*
  3. Simply scroll, click or type around on the page and TA-DAH!
  4. Close the tab or window to disable the effect.

*If you are using Firefox, disabled the "Search for text when I start typing" option if you have previously enabled it.

UP

I had such high hopes for this movie, but it let me down instead of UP.

You have to chase your dreams,

But it is the journey that counts.

 Every step is an adventure,

Every obstacle is a reminder.

Sometimes, you have to learn to let go,

In order to gain a little bit more.

Never be consumed by obsession,

Always live life to the fullest.

It is a pity that Disney-Pixar did not manage to relay all that in a more magical way. Being able to travel in a floating house of balloons is not the magic I meant. The movie had its fair share of color and laughter, but it just wasn't magical for me. However, I have to give credit to Disney-Pixar for the subtle details that made the movie more meaningful than just-another-animation-film. Interpreting the underlying meaning of the story was probably the best part of the movie, given that there was one to begin with. All in all, UP is definitely not one of my favorite Disney movies.

I'm ashamed of myself =_=

There was a community event in my residential area today. It is mainly for people to sign-up as members of the residents association. Mum, my brother and I went to check it out since there was free food I've never been to any of my residential area's community event before and wanted to see if there were any cute guys in the area =P. Mum also wanted to clarify something with the community members, so despite the drizzle, we walked to the park/playground area.

There were not many people there today. According to my brother, the last community event he attended had A LOT more people. I figured it is probably due to the rain because it got heavier as we reach the park/playground area. (Us three being so smart did not think of bringing an umbrella -_-'')

Anyway, after dilly-dallying for about half an hour, the community members started giving mini speeches and whatnot. Another half an hour later, the president finally gave the word to start the buffet. I was starving then!! (I didn't eat lunch and there were hardly anything to eat at home for tea-time =3)

Since it was still raining and there were only a few small canopy, everyone was trying to squeeze under the canopy and line-up for food at the same time. There were hardly any space to move around, and me being a klutz dropped my spoon on the ground =( I wanted to picked it up straight away but people kept pushing/squeezing and there was no way I could bend down and get my spoon. I ended up leaving the poor spoon to drown in the 'mini flood' and be crushed by numerous wet feet.

I didn't give too much thought about the spoon afterwards even though mum had asked me to pick it up. It was just too icky laying there on the wet floor. Soon enough, I regretted my decision for not picking up the spoon as the crowd died down.

An old grandma with a cane saw the spoon and did what I should have done way earlier on. Due to old age, she could not get the spoon on the first try. I wanted to help her, but before I managed to do anything, she had already bent down with great effort and picked up the dirty spoon. At that moment, I was so ashamed of myself =_= How could I have left the spoon there thinking that the caterer will clean it up later? How could I allow myself to let an old grandma with difficulty walking pick up the spoon that I dropped?

I am so ashamed of my ignorant behavior, and I feel a great sense of remorse for having a grandma showing me the right thing to do. I am utterly disgusted at myself that I feel the need to blog out this confession. I hope that those of you who are reading this will pardon my lack of action. =(

Shakira vs. Tila Tequila

I was Facebook-ing and happened to stumble upon Shakira's trashy "She Wolf" MV. Don't get me wrong, I think Shakira is a great singer, but coming out with an MV this trashy is plain DESPICABLE. Some praised her ability to contort and move her body in impossible ways, but I think it is just wrong and totally WEIRD.

The MV's level of trashiness can probably match that of Tila Tequila's. Once again, I'm not trying to dis anyone, I actually like Tila Tequila's "Summer Nightfalls", probably because it is very different from her usual style. Everyone knows she is famous for being slutty hot and sexy.

Anyway, here's the MV of "She Wolf" by Shakira and "Stripper Friends" by Tila Tequila.

Judge it for yourself

I actually wanted to compare "She Wolf" with Tila Tequila's "I Love U" initially
but found "Stripper Friends" to be a better comparison.
Here's the video anyway for you hornballs out there =P

The worst paper EVER!!

FINALLY!! I'm done with all my exams for the semester and therefore have the time to blog about the awful AFW1000 - Principles of Accounting & Finance paper that almost everybody is complaining about.

Before I go on, I feel the need to declare that my accounting and finance skills are not great and that I have not put in 100% effort into this course, BUT I did study for the exam.

On the day of the exam, I was feeling rather anxious. It was the only paper that I had hardly any confidence, and as I started doing the exam, my confidence fell to rock bottom...........

When the invigilator announced the commencement of the exam, I tried my best to answer each of the questions. The first section being multiple-choice was doable, I felt that I could at least score 7 or 8 out of the 10 marks, and it boosted my confidence slightly.

I moved on to the second question and *oh-oh* it was the dreaded income statement and balance sheet. Needless to say, my balance sheet didn't balance and I think I messed up the income statement as well, so there goes my marks. To keep my confidence from dropping any lower, I told myself that it was ok because there are still 7 more questions to go and I'm bound to get the marks back!

After going through a few questions which I can't remember, journalizing some transactions into the wrong account, and bullshitting my way through more questions, I arrived at the future/present value and interest calculation questions. YAY! I can do these......no...wait a minute...what are these questions asking for? O_o

I read, reread, read and reread the questions again and again. I could not understand what the questions wanted. WHY IS THIS?!?! I was depending on these questions to pull me through, but it looks as though the chief examiner was out to get me!! I ended up doing the calculations hastily, half guessing what the questions wanted and went on to finish up the rest of the paper.

By the end of the exam, I did not feel good at all. The girl who sat behind me told her friend that the paper was harder than last semester. The guys sitting in front of me and beside me were discussing how some of the questions seem ambiguous and impossible. Two friends from the adjacent row shook their heads. It's over. It can't get any worst.

Initially, I thought I was the only one getting screwed over by this paper due to my lack of effort. However, as more and more friends voiced out their concern of failing, I started to wonder whether it was me or the paper (one must be aware of the fundamental attribution error =P).

After checking the course's online discussion board, I realized that students from other campuses and out-of-campus students who studied diligently for the exam found the paper frustrating as well. Their main complaint was the wording of the question; they were deemed as ambiguous and contained unfamiliar terms. The practice paper was also found to be "useless" with faulty solutions corrected at the last minute and was presented in a slightly different format from the actual exam.

In hope of catching a response from a teaching staff on the matter, I check the discussion board frequently. No explanations were given until today. Two students from the Gippsland campus went to see their head of school and will be passing on the students' comments. I really hope that the chief examiner will take into consideration all the comments and moderate the exam accordingly.

While waiting for a response from the university, I can only wait patiently for the results and hope for the best. I really don't want to retake this course T_T

UPDATES:
I passed the awful course!!!! ^_^ I even got a distinction for it!! *hahahaha* I cannot believe it. Miracles do happen after all, or maybe it's just the works of the nice bell curve *hehe* Anyhow, I'm very grateful =D

The Original Cuppycake Song

This super cute song was originally sang by 3 years-old Amy Castle back in 1994.

You're my Honeybunch, Sugarplum
Pumpy-umpy-umpkin, You're my Sweetie Pie
You're my Cuppycake, Gumdrop
Snoogums-Boogums, You're the Apple of my Eye

And I love you so and I want you to know
That I'll always be right here
And I love to sing sweet songs to you
Because you are so dear

Music and lyrics by Judianna Castle.
